Our Jacobite hearts in three colours – Glenfinnan, Waverely and Traquair – are inspired by the Jacobite cause to put Bonnie Prince Charlie on the throne. After the Battle of Culloden, the Jacobites were outlawed. To show their support for the ‘King across the water’, Jacobite sympathisers commissioned beautiful glasses with twisted stems, etched with symbolic decorations. Many survive in museum collections. Tartan Twist’s hand-blown “tartan” or plaid glass hearts are inspired by this wonderful glass work. Our exquisite hearts are topped with a delicate silver heart on fine organza ribbon and finished with a sterling silver heart-shaped clasp.
Alternatively, our Murano glass hearts shot through with silver, and made for us by a small family of traditional glassmakers on the Island of Murano in Venice, make wonderful Valentine’s gifts. The pendants come on a choice of plain satin or tartan ribbon and are finished with a sterling silver heart-shaped clasp. There are matching earrings and bracelets incorporating silver dragonflies and freshwater pearls.
Our Silver and Scottish Collection includes a range of finely worked sterling silver hearts, hallmarked in Edinburgh. The hearts open to take two photographs. Choose from filigree silver or polished silver inlayed with garnet (the January birthstone) or amethyst. Our Eternal Pearls, which combine cultured pearls with liquid silver and silver hearts, are wonderfully romantic.
